If the owner of that slave was a fellow JW, you can be sure that the chances of the JWs reporting him to the authorities would have been a lot smaller. They would have reported him to the elders and the elders would have handled the matter in-house and would not have reported it to the authorities for fear of "bringing reproach on the Jehovah's name and the organization". But when it's a worldly person they report it so that they can get good publicity. A lot of the good deeds JWs do - like returning a lost wallet - they do it, not out of genuine kindness, but just so they can boast about being one of Jehovah's Witnesses and that's why they returned it. They do good deeds as a cult advertising gimmick. Am not saying that's the case with the JWs in the story. But when you read experiences of JWs returning lost property, there's often a recurring theme where the JW boasts that he did it because he's a JW - not a christian, but a JW. In other words he did the good deed as an advertising gimmick.

To point to the complexity of universe as indisputable evidence of an intelligent creator, only to turn around and then claim that this intelligent creator is himself uncreated is oxymoronic to the highest degree. Appealing to the notion of there being an infinitely powerful, infintely wise, uncreated, eternally pre-existing person to explain the origin of our complex universe, is therefore comparable to a foolish man who borrows a million dollars to pay off a hundred dollar debt. In his imagination he is content that he has resolved the hundred dollar debt, but he is too foolish to see the reality that he has actually created a much higher debt to pay off. For the explanative debt incurred to account for the existence of our universe is far less than the explanative debt incurred to account for the existence of the God that theists use to "pay off" the explanative debt for the universe's existence.

at a recent meeting the scripture deu 25:4 was cited "do not muzzle a threshing bull".. it was applied to how the elders in the cong should be obeyed submissively because, they said, to go against the elders authority would be like muzzling a threshing bull???

That is a clear misapplication of scripture. The underlying principle behind that text is that "the worker is worthy of his wages". Paul applied this very scripture to make the point that those ministering are deserving/entitled to benefit physically/materially for their hard work. (1 Corinthians 9:3-10)

Yeah, it's kind of ironic though - mental slaves who believe in an ancient book that supports/condones physical slavery, work to free a physical slave.

Weren't they going against bible principles? The bible commands slaves to be obedient to their masters with sincerety of heart and to be slaves with good inclinations. (Ephesians 6:5,7) Also slaves are to consider their owners as being worthy of full honor. (1 Timothy 6:1). The actions of these JWs in getting a slave to abandon his/her master is contrary to the aforementioned scriptural principles.

WT Study Article Nov. 23, 2014--Adam understood "day" to be 24 hours

interesting admission in today's wt: adam may have understood "day" (as in "in the day you eat from it, you will positively die") to be a literal 24-hour period.

i don't think the wt has ever said this before; the usual emphasis is that jah meant it as a figurative day, a day from his standpoint which is 1,000 years (and the article does state that, later).. however, if adam understood god's warning to be carried out in a 24 hour period, and god did nothing to alleviate that, then who did the lying?

actually, regardless of adam's understanding, the question still stands but moving toward an admission of the use of day in that context to be 24-hours only makes the question even more valid.

Yes, why not? What if they thought they would die the instant they ate the fruit, as if it were poison? Eve could have told Adam, some time after eating the fruit "It's not true what God has said. We positively will not die if we eat the fruit. See! I've eaten it an hour ago and I'm still alive and furthermore, my eyes have opened. Here, try some..."

Or it could have gone something like this:

Adam: Dear wife of mine, what have you done?! Is that not the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden - the very tree of which God has said: 'you must not eat from it, for in the very day of your eating from it you will positively die'?

Eve: It is even so, Adam my lord. But behold! I'm still alive. I positively will not die!

Adam: Dear wife of mine, the sun has not yet set. There is still ample time left for you to die and I will positively be bereaved. And what good would this life of mine be if it is without you? If I cannot live with you then I will die with you. Give me a bite and let us die together... why are you gazing intently at my loins and smiling?

Eve: Oh no my lord! I was just...umm....contemplating what you were saying...yeah...that's it. My eyes just happened to be pointing in that direction while I was contemplating your very touching and romantic words.

Adam: And why do you have that leaf over your loins?

Eve: Umm....it's just a....umm....decoration....yeah....it's a decoration....you know, like the peacocks have their tail to decorate them....

I'm not denying that Satan's words could be taken as implying that God is a liar. The point that I'm making is that he did not explicitly say so. But JWs are quick to accuse him of lying due to what he implied. Yet the same JWs turn a blind eye to the organization's clear implications that the end is coming in 1975, by saying the org never actually explicitly said it in print. In other words, the org hypocritically takes Satan to task for his insinuations, yet they excuse their own false insinuations about 1975 on the technicality that they never explicitly spelled it out. They judge Satan harshly for his insinuations but hypocritically give themselves a free pass for their own false prophetic insinuations. When it's Satan, insinuations are as good as an outright statement. But when it comes to Watchtower's false prophecies, an insinuation is not as good as an outright statement. They are hypocrites!

the weekly tms bible reading assignment is not read, or not carefully read, by most of the sheeples.

it doesn't really matter, because the consideration of the bible reading material is one of the shortest parts on the meeting with a limited number of comments, and those comments are restricted to less than 30 seconds or you will get counselled.

over and over, the dubs are told to read the bible, yet the organization gives no real encouragement to read the bible by keeping everyone busy in the recruiting work and using relatively few scriptures in their "talks".. why?
